The national profile of governance has never been higher, with the current government committed to supporting schools with a range of measures designed to ensure effective governance. As part of Avec’s ongoing support for governance at a local level, we are pleased to announce the introduction of regular Governor Guidance Sessions where each session will focus on a specific area of interest and involve contributions from external speakers.
The first two of our Governor Guidance Sessions will take place in February and will be led by David Walker, Avec’s Senior Partner: Leadership and Governance, supported by contributions from Ofsted and the Education Funding Agency.Session 1: Wednesday 11th February 2015
Effective compliance: the Education Funding Agency perspective
The session will explore the EFA’s findings related to accountability within the Academy context and the keynote will be given by Alyson Gerner: Deputy Director (Head of Risk Analysis Division) EFA who will offer feedback from EFA monitoring activity within the academy context. This session will be of interest to trustees/governors in an academy context and governors of schools who are considering academy status.
Light refreshments will be available from 4.30pm and the session starts at 5pm – 6.30pm at Carmel College, Darlington in the John Caden Hall.Session 2: Wednesday 25th February 2015
When the Inspector callsThe session will focus on the role of governors in the school inspection process and the keynote will be given by Mark Evans HMI who will offer a HMI perspective on the implications of recent inspection findings for governors. This session will be of interest to trustees/governors in all types of schools.
Light refreshments will be available from 4.30pm and the session starts at 5pm – 6.30pm at Carmel College, Darlington in the John Caden Hall.
There will be no charge for these sessions however there will be a limited number of places. If you would like to book a place on either or both sessions then please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by 30th January.
These sessions are open to all schools and NOT restricted to Avec client schools. There is no charge for attendance.
